We’re committed to giving back to communities that bring us our tea. Most of the tea for our signature everyday brew comes from Gisenyi in Rwanda and we work with the Point Foundation – who are based there - to support orphans and vulnerable young people in the area. We make a donation to the Point Foundation with every pack of everyday brew we sell. We also match donations our customers make on our website and run regular fundraising efforts. Thanks to all your contributions, we’ve raised over £150,000 together and we’re keen to do more!

orphanages

If you’ve known us for little while, you might remember that we used to support the Noel Orphanage in Gisenyi. The orphanage used to sit right opposite the tea plantation from which we source our everyday brew and donations from teapigs and teapigs super customers went towards clothing and shelter for the children for 9 years – since teapigs started! The orphanage has now closed and the children have been placed in to homes within their original communities. Throughout those years, the Rwandan government had been working hard to place children from orphanages across the country in to families and today, all of the county’s orphanages are closed or closing. Whilst this is happy news for many children who have found new homes, there is still lots of work to be done to help support the children themselves and the families and communities that give them a home. There’s little support for disabled children in Rwanda so we’re working with the Point Foundation in these areas too.

The Point Foundation run houses that provide specialist accommodation for disabled children and young adults. teapigs donations contribute towards the household and care costs for all Point Foundation houses and we sponsor one of the houses fully. We’ll keep you updated on how they all get on.

Our donations help young adults who missed out on education to get schooling and help fund students through university (fees and accommodation.) We’re helping to lift the financial burden and give them hope for a better future.

It’s a really busy and complicated time in Rwanda at the moment, and the Point Foundation are doing lots of great work in providing day to day care for vulnerable young people and working with the government to build more long term solutions. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as often as possible on their progress and how your donations are helping… and they really are helping. THANK YOU for your continued support!
